The Chocolate Factory Gains Welsh Tourist
Board Recognition - 22nd Sept 2005

Swansea’s very own Chocolate Factory has recently won Wales
Tourist Board recognition, following a rigorous assessment from
an inspector from the Visitor Attraction Quality Assurance
Service. As a Quality Assured Visitor Attraction The Chocolate
Factory meets certain criteria laid down by the Wales Tourist
Board.
Martin Holt sales and marketing manager for The Chocolate
Factory said; ‘This is the third season that we have opened up
our factory to visitors and we are very keen to develop. Working
with the tourism department of the City and County of Swansea,
who have been very supportive, we decided that, our attraction
must be properly accredited. It is rather similar in the way our
big retail customers like to work, making sure that we are doing
things properly.’
The point of a VAQAS accreditation is not just about putting up
a smart logo on the wall but all about developing an attraction
that, meets standards which visitors have a right to expect.
As Martin went on to explain; ‘We are keen to develop our
attraction into one of the top attractions in Wales and it is
quality that we are interested in not just quantity! Our
commitment is to our visitors, to give them a quality, value for
money experience! The VAQAS accreditation is testament to this
commitment.‘
Wales Tourist Board chief executive, Jonathan Jones, said: “The
quality of Welsh produce plays an important part in the holiday
experience at a time when tourism is becoming ever more
competitive and visitor expectations ever higher. The Chocolate
Factory is one of several products that has made its process
into a tourist attraction and is offering an experience that has
all the hallmarks of quality. The VAQAS accreditation highlights
this and is the Wales Tourist Board’s seal of approval.”
Tours of the factory are conducted by Cocoa the clown who
ensures that every visit to is a very chocolatey experience.
Groups are guided round the factory and shown how various types
of chocolates are made, with plenty of sampling along the way!
